Our History
Here at Russian Mule Brewing Company we are proud to support the Russian heritage of our own Irina Nicoletti. Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, she came to the United States with an expectation of quality beers that represent what her earlier years exposed her to in her native homeland. While we intend to continually brew new and exciting beers, you will always be able to find Russian styled beers ranging from Pilsners and Lagers to Imperial Stouts. Good clean water, necessary for all life, is also necessary for good beer. All of our beers will be brewed using some of the worlds most pure and rich water, coming right from the Catskill Mountains.
The Russian Mule Restaurant & Tasting Room, with an original tin ceiling and white pine walls, adorned with original paintings from famed Russian-American artist Alexander Kaletski, including his masterpiece, “The Russian Mule,” allows one to sit at the custom granite bar, have a glass of freshly brewed craft beer and view the Russian Mule brew room with its glittering new equipment through its glass windows.
The Russian Mule therefore offers the unique combination of Russian culture, craft beer and delicacies.
The System
Our equipment was specifically designed to meet our needs. We have a custom designed 3.5 bbl brew house. This means we can brew 108.5 gallons of beer per batch. This allows us to remain small enough to truly experiment and continually brew new and exciting beers, but also big enough to ensure that your thirst is always quenched. Sourced and designed from one of the worlds best equipment suppliers, we have extreme versatility with our brewing techniques. We expect to be brewing up to 8 different beers at any given time ensuring that no matter what type of beer you like to drink, we will have just the right one for you.
About Brewmaster Joshua Hughes
Backed by over 10 years of brewing experience, Joshua Hughes comes to the table with a wealth of knowledge and brewing skills. Born in NY, he gained his introduction to the craft beer world while living in coastal California. After moving back to NY he began brewing professionally and soaking in all the growing techniques and styles of the rapidly growing industry and learning everything he could from the ever welcoming professional brewing community. As an award winning brewer he will bring excellence with him to Russian Mule Brewing, giving you nothing but the highest quality beers. He prefers to brew dark full body and flavor beers, focusing heavily on malt characters while also enjoying all the new varietals of hops creating never ending possibilities.
